Luca Debargue is a French pianist who was born on October 17, 1990 in Saint Petersburg, Russia. He started playing the piano when he was 11 years old and won a few international competitions before dropping out of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris. He made his international breakthrough after finishing fourth at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 2015, where he attracted a lot of attention for his unconventional approach to the piano and his lack of traditional musical education. Since then, he has performed in major venues around the world, released several albums, and won the Victoires de la Musique Award for Best Instrumental Soloist in 2016. His repertoire includes works by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, and Scriabin, as well as his own compositions. Despite his success, Luca Debargue remains a controversial figure in the classical music world because of his unorthodox playing style and his rejection of traditional musical institutions and methods.
